Former teammate reflects on Greg Bryant Jr.

Former Notre Dame running back Greg Bryant was declared brain dead on Sunday following a shooting in South Florida, the Chicago Tribune reports.

Notre Dame football coach Brian Kelly issued this statement, via the Tribune:

“This is such a sad and tragic situation. My thoughts and prayers, as well as those of everyone associated with the University of Notre Dame and its football program, are with Greg’s family at this incredibly difficult time.”

According to NBC South Florida, West Palm Beach police found Bryant, 21, shot in a car on Interstate 95 in South Florida early Saturday morning. The police said they are investigating the incident as a homicide.

The Tribune said an unidentified 25-year-old passenger who was in the vehicle Bryant was driving sustained minor injuries in the shooting.

Bryant played at Notre Dame for one season because he became academically ineligible to play in the 2015 season. He then moved on to ASA Miami junior college for a semester, playing one game. The running back was expected to resume his college football career at the University of Alabama at Birmingham in 2017.
