It’s Valentine’s Day season, but just because you’re saved and sanctified, that doesn’t mean you can’t partake in love’s holiday. In fact, it makes it easier to acknowledge the great things about loving yourself and loving the Lord above all.

We’re taking this special day to play some of our favorite Gospel/Christian love songs to or about God and we hope you find comfort in knowing that Jesus loves you on Valentine’s Day – and everyday. So how about we get into the mix right now? Go ahead, don’t be afraid. Give love and receive love from the greatest kind there ever was and ever will be.

1. THE CLARK SISTERS – “JESUS IS A LOVE SONG”

Originally released on the legendary Clark Sisters’ 1986 album Heart & Soul, this song proves that Jesus is indeed the perfect love song. We promise you’ll be humming along by the end of this one right along with us.

2. JONATHAN MCREYNOLDS – “LOVIN’ ME”

This feel-good song comes from Jonathan McReynolds’ debut album, Life Music.

3. DONALD LAWRENCE & THE TRI-CITY SINGERS FEATURING MEN OF STANDARD – “LOVE’S HOLIDAY”

Ok, we know you’re looking at the photo and album cover wondering why there’s a Christmas album in the mix. Don’t worry, once you listen to the lyrics of this timeless tune from Donald Lawrence & The Tri-City Singers’ Hello Christmas CD, you’ll understand why “Love’s Holiday” featuring Men of Standard is a song you can play and sing all year long.

4. KIRK FRANKLIN’S THE NU NATION PROJECT – “LOVE (REMIX)”

This interlude is a remix to one of our favorite records from Kirk Franklin. Originally found on the 1997 multi-million selling album God’s Property (yes, the one featuring the hit “Stomp”), Kirk Franklin toned down the funk and brought it back with smoothed out remix the year after on The Nu Nation Project. Whichever way you like it, it’s still one of the best love songs ever.

5. MARY MARY – “LOVE YOU THAT MUCH”

Sister duo Mary Mary (Erica & Tina Campbell) come together on their self-titled 2005 album for a contemporary gospel tune that has lyrics that remind us that if we really love Jesus as much as we say we do, we’d do anything and everything within our power to align ourselves with His holy will. Even when we’re afraid, we can still trust in God simply because we love Him that much.

6. GOD’S CHOSEN – “LOVE (MEDLEY)”

God’s Chosen, a trio from the St. Louis area, took some of the most familiar worship songs and mashed them up for a rather compelling medley that’s sure to bless you. Released in 2007 on their Love Ever After project, the ladies not only are singing their hearts out, but they’re also showing their love and total adoration for some of gospel music’s most memorable songs of praise.

7. KIERRA SHEARD – “LOVE LIKE CRAZY”

Leading the young generation of gospel music lovers, Kierra Sheard (daughter of Karen Clark Sheard) takes us on a personal journal of her love affair with the Lord. Originally found on 2008’s Bold Right Life album, Kierra later gave the song a little additional flavor with this extend mix by releasing it on that summer’s coveted project KiKi’s Mixtape. Funky, upbeat and unashamed, this one will have you nodding your head and dancing right along with us. Don’t worry, we won’t think you’re crazy either – just “in love like crazy.”

8. KIM BURRELL – “SWEETER”

There’s simply no voice like Kim Burrell’s. Her 2011 release The Love Album encompassed love songs from every occasion and can be played around the house while you’re warming up to your loved one, but the rare thing about this album is that every song is geared toward love of a higher level. Listen as Kim shares her journey of love with Christ acknowledging that “every day is sweeter than the day before” – especially if you’ve got the love of Christ on your side.
