McKinney Hammond shared that the song reflects a profound truth: the vital importance of God’s presence in our lives. “The presence of God is our heartbeat,” she explained. “Without Him, we can do absolutely nothing.” The track is inspired by her experiences living in Ghana, West Africa, where she finds immense comfort in the belief that God’s presence surrounds her, regardless of her circumstances.

Drawing on a well-known spiritual metaphor, she likened God’s support to the footprints in the sand, a powerful reminder that God is with us even in our most challenging times. “Whether we feel like God is with us or not, we need to be assured that He is,” McKinney Hammond said.
The conversation also touched on her work and the unique blend of musical styles in her repertoire. McKinney Hammond, along with her music director Omar Fu from Nigeria, has crafted a diverse catalog of over 300 songs. Their music, described as a fusion of rock, jazz, reggae, and Afrobeats, aims to make worship accessible and relevant beyond traditional church settings. The group, known as Relevance, focuses on spreading the gospel in unconventional spaces, including clubs.
