The conversation centered around his latest project, the faith-based film God’s Not Dead: In God We Trust, part of the popular God’s Not Dead series. “It’s a movie within a movie,” Washington explained, noting that 40 million Christians in the U.S. have no interest in politics, and 15 million aren’t even registered to vote. The film explores the idea of faith and action working together. He emphasized that while trust in God is important, faith without action isn’t enough: “Faith without works is dead.”
Washington, best known for his role as Dr. Preston Burke on Grey’s Anatomy, spoke passionately about how this new role resonated with him. Playing Congressman Darrell Smith, he sees similarities between the two characters, describing Smith as “Dr. Burke on Capitol Hill.” His portrayal aims to inspire, just as his work on Grey’s Anatomy motivated many fans to pursue careers in the medical field.
