Pastor Mike Jr. may have crafted the self-declarative anthem of the year. His latest single “Amen” recently hit no. 1 on Billboard’s Gospel Sales chart. It’s also #18 overall across all music genres.

This single isn’t a departure from his other songs. He calls his songs sermons with melodies. “Amen” is just about faith and triumph this time.

“So many people are telling you what you can’t do, what you’re not, and what you won’t be able to accomplish,” Pastor Mike recently told Get Up! Mornings with Erica Campbell. “God gave me a song full of positive confessions: This gonna be my year. I’m coming out. I’m blessed. Amen.” The inspiration struck him unexpectedly. “I was in church, and it just hit me: Amen. Amen. I was in the parking lot of West Angeles on tour, humming it, saying, ‘This gonna be the year that I break every cycle.’”

He’s been taking to social media to celebrate this new win. In his latest post, he spoofed Aaron Pierre’s walk down The Jennifer Hudson Show spirit tunnel to the tune of “Aaron Pierre. That’s Mufasa.” He posted the clip with a screenshot of “Amen’s” placement on the Billboard chart. Despite the spoof, one things for sure, he’s praising God through it all.

“When I’m up, amen,” he sings. “When I’m down, amen. When I’m winning, amen, and when I’m losing, amen. Every time you bring me out, amen. I’ll say you aint failed me yet. Never. I will stand on your word. Always. No matter what comes my way. Hey. My answer will always be amen.”

Pastor Mike Jr. is no stranger to notching successes on the Billboard chart. He has scored five consecutive #1 singles (“Big,” “I Got It,” “Amazing,” “Impossible” and “Windows”) on Billboard’s National Gospel Airplay chart. In 2020, “Big” was recognized as Billboard’s top Gospel Airplay song.
