Brent Jones is back, and he’s bringing the choir with him. The celebrated gospel artist, worship leader, and producer joined Erica Campbell and Griff on Get Up Mornings to talk about his new single “Praise in the Choir Stand,” why choir music still hits hard, and how he’s managing to drop not one—but four—albums this year.

“Praise in the Choir Stand,” his latest single, debuted strong, hitting number 40 in its first week. Jones says the song taps into something timeless. “I think it’s nostalgia,” he told Erica. “When we used to see sopranos, altos, and tenors marching in with their robes on—it felt like an army getting ready for war. That’s good church.”

With his signature energy and humor, Brent talked about how being an empty nester has given him time to dive deep into his creativity. “I got all this time, and I’m ADHD,” he joked. “So we got a workout album coming out, a spoken word record, and even an R&B album. I’m just doing me.”

But beyond the music, Brent is deeply committed to ministry—and to reaching the next generation. Griff asked how he stays grounded in his mission, and Brent responded with honesty: “If I’m not excited about what I’m doing, I can’t expect anyone else to be. I’m still excited, and I’m still concerned about the church, especially the younger crowd. That 13-year-old range? That’s who we need to be checking for.”

Brent’s no stranger to youth ministry either. He mentioned his past group TP Mobb—what Erica described as a “hardcore choir”—known for blending gospel with urban style and swagger. “All the girls looked like Mary J. Blige, and all the guys looked like Jodeci,” Brent laughed.

These days, he’s also serving as a professor and artist-in-residence at Triumph Church in Detroit. What started as a one-time visit turned into a thriving ministry. “I thought it would be one concert,” he said. “Now I’ve got 200 people in the choir stand, and we are jamming every week.”
