Kindness, she explains, is often situational and reciprocal. We’re kind when others are kind to us. Love, however, is an entirely different level. It’s an act that transcends conditions, requiring us to extend grace and compassion even when it’s undeserved. Erica highlights, “When you love despite the conditions, if you can love unlovely people fully and completely without measure, that is when love really lives on the inside of you.”

This level of love is at the core of Christian faith, modeled perfectly by Jesus Christ. He loved those who hated Him, showed compassion to those who opposed Him, and offered life to those who wished harm upon Him. “Loving like Jesus is no joke, but it is possible,” Erica reminds us.

It’s easy to only support people who cater to your methods, but leading means loving people through their imperfections and even their unkindness. To do this effectively, Erica advises regular heart checks, reminding herself and her audience to assess their motives and ensure love is their foundation.
