Multi-talented entertainer and entrepreneur T.I. recently stopped by Get Up Mornings with Erica Campbell to share his powerful new gospel single “Thank God.” The track, featuring longtime collaborator Young Dro, gospel icon Kirk Franklin, and the Sunday Service Choir, has been making waves on gospel radio—and for good reason.

From the very start of the conversation, it was clear the song is more than music—it’s a heartfelt testimony. “It came from the heart,” T.I. explained, as he reflected on the tough seasons of his life and the blessings that followed. “It just felt like evil was on me. I watched God fight my battles.”

He went on to describe how the collaboration came together organically. After running into members of the Sunday Service Choir and then Kirk Franklin, the idea for the record quickly took shape. At the same time, Young Dro was already in the studio working with T.I. as he bounced back from a personal battle with addiction.

“I overcame addiction and bounced back real hard,” Dro shared during the interview. “Now I’m mentoring in high schools over in Clayton County.” He added that thanks to TikTok, the kids recognize him again, even if they didn’t know his early hits. “The principal tells them who I am, and then they’re like, ‘Oh, he’s on TikTok!’ That helps with my mentorship.”

T.I. credited his spiritual growth for his current success and peace of mind. “This is the best it’s ever been, and the best is yet to come,” he said. “All things happen in God’s time.”

Co-host Griff highlighted the emotional shift fans are seeing in T.I.—from comedy to music and now performing on stage with his daughters. “You’re smiling and happy. This is a great season for you,” Griff noted.

Erica Campbell asked the duo about being labeled as “street gospel,” a term both men embraced. “I’m kinda loving the street gospel term,” Dro said with a smile. “What we’re saying and how we’re saying it, I feel like it’s the gospel. And it’s street because we are too.”

He added that coming from the streets, singing in the choir as a kid, and now sharing his journey through music makes the label feel authentic. “It’s a good term. My grandmama would say so.”

To wrap up the interview, Erica thanked both men for their openness and encouraged listeners to continue supporting their work. T.I. made it clear how fans could hear more: “The first thing they could do is listen to y’all.”

“Thank God” is more than a song—it’s a testimony of transformation, gratitude, and grace. Whether you’re from the streets or the sanctuary, the message hits home.
