Monique Rodriguez Opens Up About Turning Pain Into Purpose & Building a Beauty Empire

Monique Rodriguez, founder and CEO of Mielle Organics, joined Get Up Mornings with Erica Campbell for a heartfelt and inspiring conversation about grief, resilience, and legacy. The beauty mogul and now published author talked about her new book, The Glory in Your Story, a deeply personal memoir that reveals how the loss of her infant son became the driving force behind one of the most successful Black-owned beauty brands today.

Rodriguez explained that the book was written to show others that pain doesn’t have to be the end of your story—it can be the beginning of your purpose. “Each of us has a bigger calling beyond our circumstances,” she shared. “Your broken story is the very thing that God can use to elevate you.”
She detailed her emotional journey from unimaginable loss to spiritual healing, emphasizing how her faith was central to building Mielle Organics. “It’s not just about the products. It’s about my obedience to my assignment and to God,” Rodriguez said.
Erica praised Rodriguez for her transparency and courage in sharing such a vulnerable journey. The conversation then shifted to the obstacles she faced in business, including near bankruptcy and tough partnerships. When asked what advice she’d give to other women entrepreneurs, Rodriguez responded with wisdom and clarity: “Sometimes your vision is not a conference call. It’s between you and God.” She stressed the importance of patience and trusting the process, reminding listeners that “you can’t get the promise without going through the process.”
Co-host Griff jumped in with a light-hearted comment, joking about his bald head, but quickly followed with genuine admiration. He proudly revealed that he uses Mielle products on his beard and asked what kind of legacy she hopes to leave behind—especially after securing the largest deal ever for a Black female beauty founder.
