Hezekiah Walker Jr To Receive Key To New York City

Bishop Hezekiah Walker, the celebrated gospel artist and pillar of the Gospel community, is about to receive a huge honor: New York City Entertainer’s Key to the City. Mayor Eric Adams will present it on today Monday, July 21, 2025. It’s a well deserved recognition for all of of Bishop Hez’s incredible contributions to Gospel music and the community.

Later this week, on July 25, he’ll also be inducted into the Virginia Union University Gospel Music Hall of Fame during a special celebration at Brooklyn’s Theater at City Tech.

“Hezekiah Walker exemplifies the best of what our city represents: talent, faith, and a commitment to uplifting others,” said Mayor Eric Adams. “His work not only elevates the spirit but also builds stronger, more inclusive communities. We are proud to honor him.”

Walker is a legend and powerhouse in gospel music. He’s not only a Grammy winning artist and songwriter but also a powerful preacher and community advocate. Bishop Hezekiah Walker has given us many hits throughout the years, but arguably, his biggest song “Every Praise” has left the biggest mark on the gospel landscape. That song spent an amazing 2 years on the Billboard Hot Gospel Songs chart and dominated the Gospel Airplay chart for weeks. In fact, Billboard even named it the Gospel Song of the Decade in 2019, cementing its place as one of the most influential gospel songs ever.

Bishop Walker’s influence goes far beyond the stage. He’s actively involved in initiatives that boost community development and empowers people. As a pastor, his powerful sermons have brought hope to countless communities all over the world. Back in 2013, he founded the Hezekiah Walker Community Development Corporation specifically to create resources for his East New York, Brooklyn community. One of their first big projects, a 10-story, 236-unit affordable housing complex, is actually nearing completion right now. It really shows how committed he is to his community.
