UPDATE: Tamar Braxton and Fox have confirmed that the singer and reality star is leaving her hosting spot on The Real amid rumors that she was fired due to lagging popularity with the audience.
On Sunday, Tamar and the network released a joint statement about the news:
“THE REAL and Tamar Braxton have mutually decided that Tamar will not be continuing with the show for its upcoming third season. She will be leaving in order to concentrate on her solo career. Everyone associated with THE REAL appreciates Tamar’s efforts and the contributions she has made to the show’s success, and we wish her all the best for the future.”
But things appear to be not quite as simple as the statement would have you believe.
ORIGINAL STORY: On Saturday night, Tamar Braxton’s name began trending on Twitter. Fans only needed to jump to Instagram to see why, as the singer and The Real co-host put up a post acknowledging her disappointment with an alleged betrayal from someone she trusted.
“I love u all, but I have been stabbed in the back by someone I stupidly trusted (not my man or my sisters),” she wrote in the post. “I am not about to be tried and tested to snitch and it’s not in good taste to tell you who… but as #tamartians you are very smart and can figure things out on your own. But know that every one who smiles in your face is NOT your friend and is NOT cheering for you and will LIE and try and tear u down, to TRY and dim your light.”
Adding, “Thank GOD HE HOLDS MY FUTURE AND MY HAND! (Remember who u are)… I am Tamar Braxton. And if you thought for one second you played me… In the late great Prince and the amazing Beyoncé voice, you PLAYED yourself.”
As expected, fans immediately tried to figure out who she was referring to in the post. Initially, it was suspected to be April Daniels, her former friend and wife of producer, LaShawn Daniels. But he jumped on Instagram right before the second night of the Bad Boy Family Reunion show at Barclays in Brooklyn —where he was working with vocal talent— to deny the speculation.
“I hope y’all can hear me. And I don’t do no foolishness, but, just so y’all know. Everybody hitting me up about something that Tamar Braxton said. Just so we’re clear, my wife and I have nothing but love for the Herberts. The social media thing is really getting out of control. She’s not referring to myself or my wife. We have nothing to do with that.”
With Daniels clearing his wife’s name, the speculation increased. And now we’re reading that it may have something to do with her position on The Real. As reported by Love B Scott, a source says that she was allegedly fired from the show.
“She wasn’t reading too well with the audience and sales people didn’t find her to be a good fit with advertisers,” they note. “She was also too difficult dealing with production.”
They also report that she’s no longer following Adrienne Bailon, Jeannie Mai, Loni Love, or The Real on Twitter. The only host she’s currently following is Tamara Mowry-Housley.
Whether she was fired or the decision was mutual, this isn’t the first time there have been rumors about behind-the-scenes tension at the Emmy-winning daytime show concerning Braxton. Last December, Page Six reported that producers seemed “happier” when she was out sick because it was “easier for them to book guests because celebrities don’t want to book the show if they have to be interviewed by her.”
Following that incident, Loni Love shot down the rumors with an Instagram post showing all the girls with their kids, in Braxton’s bed.
“Just like REAL sisters to go into defensive mode,” the caption read. “@comiclonilove @tameramowrytwo @adrienne_bailon @thejeanniemai and our exec Racheal and even Vince (that I’m looking at crazy!!) It’s a lot more people involved at The Real but THIS bunch is the glue. Who cares about a rumor, let’s talk about FACTS! We are family! We laugh, talk, argue, agree, break up, make up, respect each other, talk about each other, tell on each other, there for one another & etc… I wouldn’t trade them for the world.”
But as for today’s drama, there has been no word from the other co-hosts. We’ve reached out for comment, but our request was not returned by the time this story went to press.
We hope that whatever happened is resolved in the most respectful way, because we all know how ruthless Hollywood can be.
