As the 90-day window for tariff negotiations came to a close earlier this month, former President Donald Trump sent letters to dozens of countries, notifying them of new “reciprocal” tariff rates set to take effect August 1.

Since the administration first announced sweeping tariffs in the spring, the White House has finalized several major trade deals with key partners — often at reduced tariff levels compared to Trump’s initial threats.

Major Trade Agreements Secured

  • European Union: Trump announced a deal Sunday that will set tariffs at 15% on European goods, including automobiles, down from the 30% rate he had previously threatened. As part of the agreement, the EU will purchase $750 billion worth of U.S. energy and invest $600 billion more in American goods and infrastructure.

  • Japan: A deal announced last week also sets tariffs at 15%, compared to a threatened 25%. Japan agreed to invest $550 billion in U.S. projects and to open its market to American agricultural products and automobiles.

  • United Kingdom: In early May, Trump finalized a deal reducing tariffs from 25% to 10%. The agreement allows the U.K. to export up to 100,000 vehicles annually to the U.S. at the lower rate. Trump and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer are expected to discuss the implementation on Monday in Scotland.

  • China: In a move to ease escalating tensions, the U.S. cut its tariff on Chinese goods from 145% to 30%, while China reduced its tariff on U.S. imports from 125% to 10%. Talks between Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and Chinese Vice Premier He Lifeng are scheduled for Monday, with China expected to push for the removal of a separate 20% fentanyl-related tariff. Both countries continue to maintain a baseline 10% tariff.

  • Philippines: Trump announced the U.S. will reduce tariffs on Philippine exports from 20% to 19%, after earlier threatening to raise them from 17%.

  • Indonesia: The two countries agreed on a flat 19% tariff for Indonesian goods.

Tariffs for Countries Without Deals

For countries that haven’t reached an agreement, new tariffs will kick in on August 1. Here’s what they’ll face:

Country Tariff Rate
Canada 35%
Mexico 30%
South Korea 25%
South Africa 30%
Kazakhstan 25%
Laos 40%
Malaysia 25%
Myanmar 40%
Tunisia 25%
Bosnia and Herzegovina 30%
Bangladesh 35%
Serbia 35%
Cambodia 36%
Thailand 36%
Libya 30%
Iraq 30%
Algeria 30%
Moldova 25%
Brunei 25%
Sri Lanka 30%
Brazil 50%

Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick said Sunday that while Trump remains firm on the August 1 deadline, the administration is open to continued negotiations even after the tariffs take effect.
