“I’m so excited because joining us today is songwriter, worship leader, and so much more than that. Wait till we talk to her. Sarah Sarah Benibo, thank you so much. Thank you for coming to Get Up Mornings.”
“Ministry is in my blood,” Sarah began. “My parents have been in ministry my entire life. I’m what they call a ‘pew baby.’ I was raised in a Pentecostal church in St. Louis, Missouri, and attended that church my whole life, the Pentecostal Assemblies of the World. I went to school and got a degree in music, got married, and felt I needed more. I was in a girl group called God’s Chosen for a long time. We traveled, sang, and did albums. But as I ministered, I felt there had to be more, so I went to theology school at SMU in Dallas and got a degree in sacred music. This taught me how music and theology work together.”

Impressed, Erica delved deeper into how Sarah manages to balance her various roles. “I’m always moved by your messages. You’re also a mom and working on various projects. How do you stay grounded and spiritually refreshed amidst the demands of ministry, career, and culture?”
“I love the definition of humility as being everything God calls me to be and nothing more,” Sarah replied thoughtfully. “We have to keep those two things in balance. I am the head, not the tail; the lender, not the borrower; and I am not God. I am weak, in need, and dependent. Keeping these realities at the center helps when making milk for the baby or standing in front of 10,000 people. In both scenarios, I rely on God, and He shows up every time.”

Mr. Griff then posed an intriguing question, asking Sarah what she would say to young female rappers today. Sarah referenced Lisa Nichols, saying, “Lisa Nichols, a woman I admire, once said three things that have stuck with me: I have nothing to defend, nothing to protect, and nothing to prove. I remind myself of this whenever I’m given an assignment that requires me to be bigger than I feel. Many women today feel they have to defend their worth, prove they are better, or protect their reputation. But they are already valuable just by being themselves.”
