Hairston began by expressing his love and admiration for his wife, Pastor Trina Hairston, who was supposed to be with him in the studio but instead spent the night caring for her father, Bishop JC White, in the hospital. “One of the greatest men I know,” Hairston said of his father-in-law. Reflecting on his wife’s dedication, he remarked, “We had a whole plan of what we were gonna do today, but love steps in and says, ‘I’ll cover you.’”

He elaborated on the true meaning of love, emphasizing that it’s not just about romance or grand gestures. “After the wedding, that’s when love shows up. It’s romance until it’s love afterward.” He highlighted the selfless nature of love, explaining, “Love says you cover her. You take care of her. You fill in the gap.”

Hairston also referenced scripture, pointing out that love “keeps no record of wrong.” But he took it a step further, adding, “Love doesn’t have a scoreboard. Not only do we not keep record of wrong, don’t keep record of right either.” He emphasized that true love isn’t about tallying wins and losses but about unwavering support: “I’m here to love you, to be there for you, no matter what.”

Cheryl Jackson, chiming in, praised his words: “Now that’s love.” The conversation also tied into a previous discussion with co-host Griff about managing emotions and “meltdown moments.” Jackson noted how Hairston turned an unexpected situation into a lesson on love, saying, “When you could take lemons and make lemonade… that’s love.”

Hairston wrapped up by reinforcing that real love isn’t about seeking credit but about showing up. “You gotta be willing to show love without wanting credit. Sometimes we want the credit for everything we do… No, it’s cool. I’m here to support you in every way I can.”

As Jackson concluded, “Love is what love does.”
