What many may not know is that the song was never originally meant to be a song at all.
“It was just a post,” Lena said, recalling how she was in her car trying to get some peace while her husband was making noise in the kitchen. “I had my beanie on, just trying to make dinner. I didn’t expect nothing major—I thought people would just laugh and say, ‘Lena, you crazy!’”
But that simple post blew up overnight, racking up more than 115,000 views on Instagram and spreading like wildfire across social media. And it wasn’t just laughs—it struck a nerve in a deeper way. “I got testimonies,” Lena revealed. “People saying it kept someone from picking up a gun, or helped someone forgive. That’s when I realized, this ain’t just a funny moment—this is ministry.”
Inspired by the unpredictable behavior of people in everyday life—whether at work, in relationships, or even at church—Lena said the song’s message is rooted in biblical truths about grace and forgiveness.
“The devil don’t care who he uses to get glory for himself,” she explained. “But we’re supposed to glorify God. That means not letting people change you when they do you wrong.”
The phrase “people gon’ people,” Lena says, became a reminder not to take things personally, because some folks are just acting out of pain, bad habits, or just not knowing better. The key is how you respond.
It was gospel producer Warren Campbell who took the post to the next level. After friends like Juan Winans tipped him off, Warren called Lena and said they needed to record a full version—immediately. “He hadn’t even seen it at first,” Lena laughed. “But people were calling him like, ‘You gotta check out Lena’s page right now.’”
