“The fact that Griff started singing it and he doesn’t normally sing—that’s exactly what I wanted,” Hunter shared, explaining how the song was written so that anyone, not just trained vocalists, could sing it comfortably in church. “Aretha Franklin told me once, ‘People buy what they can sing along to,’” he added.
Host Erica Campbell praised the song’s soothing energy and singable structure, calling it both “calming and relaxing.” Griff even chimed in with a few impromptu notes, drawing laughs from the entire studio.
Hunter also made headlines recently after being named a 2025 inductee into the Gospel Music Hall of Fame—an honor that caught him completely off guard. “You don’t have the eyes other people have when they’re looking at you,” he said about being recognized for his career, which spans decades and includes roles as a choir director, artist, radio host, and television personality.
Recounting the moment he found out, Hunter said he was leaving a concert at the Stellar Awards when someone told him, “We’ve been looking for you… We want to honor you.” Initially, he thought they wanted him to host the ceremony—only to realize he was being inducted.
But the surprises didn’t stop there. In true Griff fashion, the conversation turned humorous when he revealed that Hunter once modeled for S-Curl. “I wasn’t on the box,” Lonnie clarified. “But I was the S-Curl man for about six years. That product bought my house!”

Erica jokingly encouraged Griff to consider a man weave endorsement next. “They’re out here!” she laughed, as the crew went on a comedic detour that had everyone in stitches.
On a more personal note, Hunter shared that he’s now living in Napa, California, embracing the West Coast life after many years of serving in ministry around the country.
